Darrell’s top 5 favorite movies of all time!

dark_knight_18The Dark Knight

Everything about this movie was amazing.  The cinematography, the characters, the action an awesome story line that really aided in complimenting the franchise.  Heath Ledger was in rare form and he really showed his versatility as an actor and his ability to truly become a character.  The sheer bad assery displayed by Bale as Batman was bar none, the man has really brought respect back to the franchise as the new face of Batman and I could not have been happier with this, I saw it numerous times in the theater.  I watched several “copies” of it people gave me, I cannot get enough of the Dark Knight.  I own the super duper Special Edition — I cannot wait for the next installment of the series!

Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.  Can you get much better than this? In all the Westerns I have seen (and their are a lot) this one still sticks out as my favorite.  Is it the “best” by industry standards? No.  I have a feeling that goes to one of the “Dukes” films.  However the creativity of this story and the awesome cast make this one of the best in my book and my favorite.  Val Kilmer shined as Doc Holliday, when I think of all the guys I’ve seen play Doc over the years, Kilmer is the one who sticks out.  The same can be said for those who played Wyatt Earp — I always think of Kurt Russell.  I don’t think a better cast could have been selected for the film.

Ed Norton was TOP notch in this flick, he showed the struggles of that lifestyle and the prices you pay for your actions and associations with certain groups.  The same story could have been taken and used as a gang banger story, basically Neo Nazi are no different than gang bangers.  This was an interesting look into the mind of such individuals, especially where opinions on entire races change based off the actions of a few (his father getting killed by some black gang bangers when he was fighting a fire).  He really personified the character as a hero when he came back from prison and did his best to get his brother out of that lifestyle.  This film is a real work of art, it deserves a place in the AFI top 25 best films, no question.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back15020__jaybob_l

I love this movie.  I’ve actually never seen any other movie as many times as I’ve seen Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back.  Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith ARE HILARIOUS as the dynamic duo of J&SB.  This movie by far as some of the funniest one liners I have ever heard.  One of my favorites is when Jay is reading an internet message board and they are talking about the Bluntman and Chronic movie and one writer says “Any movie based on Jay and Silent Bob are gonna lick balls because they both, in fact, lick balls”.  I really don’t think I have ever so laughed so many times in a movie.  This movie will never, ever get old to me.  In Korea my buddies Scott, Dustin, Steve, and I — likely watched this movie 100 times.

This is by no means a great flick by normal standard, most people thought it was horrid.  However, I love this movie.  It’s another one that I could watch over and over and never get tired of, in fact I’ve done it.  Several times.  I had a big brother when I was growing up (from big brothers and big sisters) and this was the only DVD he owned.  I bought it for him for Christmas because we both liked it and I wanted to watch it the mornings I would stay over at his place.  I have realistically seen it about 200 times.  I still love it.  The story was great, a Patriot and USMC General is fed up with the Govt shitting on his men, so he hijacks some rockets and starts making demands for his men to be compensated and who do they bring in to help the Govt stop him, but 007? Sean FUCKING Connery, the King BAD ASS.  This is just a great, fun movie.  If you don’t like it, you suck.

I hope you enjoyed this blog, I had a good time writing it.  It was nice to write about films and not do a full review, but more or less just a jumble of thoughts associated with the film about things I enjoyed about it.  I will do a similar one in the coming weeks in regards to my affinity for horror films and the ones that I enjoy the most.

You can expect to see it in a week or two. I’m trying to write something everyday M-F, but it’s hard to do so without being redundant.
