As of late I have been watching a lot of baseball, namely SF Giants baseball. As a child I grew up watching baseball with my grandpa and grandma. My grandpa would always have me on his knee with that red and white can of Budweiser while watching the likes of Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire. I have numerous high dollar rookie cards and sports memorabilia at my Mom’s house. I have stopped watching a lot of professional sports due to several reasons, I stopped watching Basketball when I saw a player playing grab ass and shooting the shit during the National Anthem, have some respect you — you fucking mook.
They say that Baseball is the American past time, I cannot agree more. Taking your family having a beer, some bbq, and some peanuts and watching the game is one of the best nights you can have as an American. One of the other things that attracts me to Baseball other than love for the game is the patriotism of the athletes.
When the National Anthem is sang and the colors presented all of the players remove their hats and most put their hands over their hearts. Nobody is talking, playing grab ass, etc. You may even see the song being lip synced by a few a players. When the colors depart and the songs end, the place their hats back on and clap for the singer. That’s part of what makes Baseball great, a lot of the players are STILL proud to be Americans — the money and fame has not consumed them so much that they forgot their roots.
Now I am not Baseball maniac like Max, but I am falling back in love with the sport and am happy to see that Patriotism is not dead in MLB as it is in other sports. Baseball is truly Americas favorite past time.
It’s part of Americans history in more then just sports. We can all think of Jackie Robinson’s playing and being hailed as a large part of the civil rights.
In earlier times it was a way the upper and lower class could bond, talking about the game on the train. I won’t ramble too much but one of my blog’s is baseball themed if you desire more reading lol.
Great blog as always.
