Yesterday I had my application to join The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, more commonly known as “The Shriners” signed off by 2 Nobles of the Asiya Shrine in San Mateo, CA. The Shriners are one of the organizations I’ve always admired and when I found out that they were a Masonic organization I decided that once I became a Master Mason, I would become a Shriner.
I had thought about not joining any other Masonic bodies i.e. Scottish Rite, York Rite, etc until I had the opportunity to be an Officer in my lodge and go completely through the line to Worshipful Master. I had given it a lot of thought and decided that The Shriners were a large motivating factor for me becoming a Mason, that it would be a good time to petition to join them.
I don’t want to spread myself too thin between family, school, lodge, and the Shrine. Family comes first before Lodge and Shrine, but they understand that this is something that means a lot to me and I am fully supported. Danielle is also interested in helping with anything Ladies of the Shrine can do, it will be great to have her with me for some of the functions.
To anyone who has no idea what the Shriners do, I am sure you have heard of the 22 hospitals around the U.S. called the Shriners Hospitals for Children. As I understand those are funded heavily through fundraising by the Shrine. Also I am sure some of you have seen the men in the little cars driving around in parades with a fez one. Those are also Shriners. They participate in a lot of other service type activities as well as what I mentioned above.
Now, I need to submit my application with my fees and hopefully I will be initiated in due time.
and just for something funny….
