This week I have been on phone standby for Jury Duty. Today at 10 I get a notice online that said I needed to report to the down town courthouse at 1 pm. Boo!
I get there and get some lunch at the Tower Café across from the courthouse, which sucked ass BTW. Don’t advertise a pepper steak sandwich if A) you’re not going to use peppers with the meat and B) the meat is steak ums. What makes that a pepper steak sandwich?
Anyway, moving on from lunch. I headed to court and met a Brother Master Mason, Deputy Sheriff who was stationed at the entrance of the courthouse. It turned out he was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in my very own lodge, but moved on to Friendship 210 later. We had a nice conversation and he told me “Good Luck, My Brother”, I laughed and replied I was just going for Jury Duty.
I sat in the Jury room for an hour before my number was called. I then headed upstairs to the courtroom for jury selection. The Judge informed us that he was aware that a lot of us may be on college break and requested all students sit in the jury box. He then went 1 by 1 and had each of us tell him where we went to school, what our major is, and how we are doing.
He then dismissed all of us. I’m relieved as I was not looking forward to missing class because of a stupid civil trial.
